People sometimes think that I work out to lose weight. Those people are the ones that don't understand what being fit is about. I'm not saying that I don't appreciate the 30 pounds I've lost in the last year, but it's just an awesome side effect. I don't have kids to “live for” and I don't have anyone to impress but myself. I do it for me--100%.
We didn't have a lot of money. We literally went out and bought the bare minimum (which you always find out later is still too much stuff) at the lowest price we could find. So when you hear a gear review from me, you'll get a synopsis of how I came to the equipment I have now.
My answer to that question is always a resounding YES! Why? Because they will change your hiking life. They are one of my most important pieces of gear. They are not just for those older bad asses that are still going strong that are finishing a 14er just as you're getting started. I will tell you why I love trekking poles.
